CVE-2024-6908

Admin-to-SuperAdmin escalation via unchecked role update

Published Jul 19, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024

Privilege escalation in affected YugabyteDB Anywhere releases allows remote authenticated users with Admin access to become SuperAdmin. UsersController.changeRole converts the PUT request's role parameter directly to a role and saves it without rejecting SuperAdmin. An existing Admin session and adjacent-network access are required; success grants control of sensitive platform functions and managed data.
