Subscriber-level theme activation via missing capability checks
Published Aug 3, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Missing authorization in TemplateSpare 2.4.2 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to activate any installed WordPress theme. The templatespare_activate_required_theme and templatespare_get_theme_status AJAX handlers process subscriber requests without capability checks, permitting theme activation and status reads. Subscriber-level access is sufficient; supplying an uninstalled theme slug records it as active and removes the site's theme functionality.
