Code execution via symlink-following archive extraction
Published Oct 29, 2024 · Updated Oct 15, 2025
Path traversal in LocalAI 2.17.1 allows remote authenticated users to write outside the models directory via crafted archives. ExtractArchive automatically unpacks additional model files while accepting entries that resolve through symbolic links to locations outside the destination. Model-installation access is required; overwriting server backend assets grants code execution with the LocalAI process's privileges.
