CVE-2024-6840Network attack vector

Service-account escalation via auto-mounted Kubernetes token

Published Sep 12, 2024 · Updated Nov 20, 2025

Improper authorization in Red Hat Ansible Automation Controller before 4.5.10 allows remote authenticated users to use a Kubernetes service account. Container-group job execution permits the pod's automatically mounted service-account token to be used in HTTP requests to the Kubernetes API. Exploitation requires job execution in a container group with automountServiceAccountToken enabled, and access remains bounded by the service account's permissions.
