Unintended permissions via persistent pointer lock spoofing
Published Jul 9, 2024 · Updated Oct 30, 2025
UI redressing in Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird before 128 allows remote attackers to obtain unintended site permissions. A page can retain pointer lock after Escape and place a select element's customValidity notification over a permission prompt. Exploitation requires interactive browser-like content and user approval; ordinary Thunderbird message reading disables scripting and does not expose the path.
