SYSTEM privilege escalation via COM hijacking
Published Sep 12, 2024 · Updated Sep 12, 2024
Privilege escalation in AVG Internet Security 24.0 and earlier allows local users to gain SYSTEM privileges through COM hijacking. Hijacking COM interface {807C1E6C-1D00-453f-B920-B61BB7CDD997} injects a DLL into the frontend, whose trusted update command can install it after a time-of-check/time-of-use swap. Exploitation requires existing low-privileged local access and allowlist bypass through the Windows color-driver directory; successful execution runs attacker-controlled code as SYSTEM.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=0 <=24.0
