CVE-2024-6505Network attack vector

Host process crash via unchecked RSS queue index

Published Jul 5, 2024 · Updated Nov 8, 2025

Out-of-bounds access in QEMU before 9.1.0 allows privileged guest OS users to crash the host process through software RSS. In virtio_net_receive_rcu, an RSS-derived index was passed directly to qemu_get_subqueue without constraining it to the configured queue-pair count. RSS must be enabled, and a privileged guest user must supply an excessive indirection-table value; the reported consequence is a host QEMU process crash.
