Secret disclosure via permissive interim backup folder
Published Jul 16, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024
Sensitive information exposure in Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk System Services 6.40 allows local users to read security secrets. The backup and restore workflow copies private keys, passwords, pre-shared keys, and database folders into an interim folder without explicit access permissions. A low-privileged user must access the Windows host and trigger the workflow; recovered keys can impersonate resources on the secured network.
