CVE-2024-6302Network attack vector

Message deletion via unchecked redaction authorization

Published Jun 25, 2024 · Updated Sep 17, 2024

Authorization bypass in Conduit 0.6.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to redact any same-server user's messages. The redaction-event handler processes the event without checking whether the sender owns the target event or has the room power level required to redact it. An account able to send redaction events is required, and exploitation deletes message content and disrupts room history.
