CVE-2024-6297Known exploitationNetwork attack vector

Site takeover via injected PHP backdoor

Published Jun 25, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024

Embedded malicious code in five WordPress plugins allows remote attackers to create administrator accounts and exfiltrate credentials. Compromised WordPress.org developer accounts inserted PHP into each plugin's main file; the code creates a privileged user and posts credentials to an attacker-controlled server. Installation or update to an affected package executes the backdoor inside WordPress, enabling site takeover and further payload injection.
