CVE-2024-6287

Secure-boot bypass via incomplete image overlap checks

Published Jun 24, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024

Incorrect range validation in Renesas R-Car Gen3 Trusted Firmware-A 2.5 allows local users to execute code during secure boot. The BL2 check_load_area function combines a lower-bound test with dst + len as a Boolean and omits equal-boundary and enclosing-range cases. High local privileges and a crafted image are required; successful exploitation can overwrite a loaded image and bypass secure boot.
