CVE-2024-6259Public exploit

Device crash via unchecked advertising report length

Published Sep 13, 2024 · Updated Sep 17, 2025

Heap-based buffer overflow in Zephyr RTOS 3.6 and earlier allows physically proximate attackers to crash devices via Bluetooth reports. The bt_hci_le_adv_ext_report handler in subsys/bluetooth/host/scan.c pulls an attacker-controlled report length without checking the remaining buffer, underflowing its length and causing a heap overflow. Exploitation requires Bluetooth proximity and no authentication or user interaction; successful attacks destabilize or crash the device.
