Root code execution via MAC-only authentication
Published Nov 22, 2024 · Updated Dec 4, 2024
Improper authentication in Wyze Cam v3 firmware 4.36.11.7071 allows attackers on an adjacent network to execute arbitrary code as root. The cloud run_action_batch endpoint accepts the camera's MAC address as its sole credential instead of verifying a stronger secret. No prior authentication is required, but root execution depends on chaining this flaw with other vulnerabilities, and successful exploitation grants full control of the camera.
