SYSTEM code execution via symbolic-link overwrite
Published Nov 22, 2024 · Updated Nov 22, 2024
Local privilege escalation in Check Point ZoneAlarm Extreme Security NextGen 4.0.148.0 allows local users to execute code as SYSTEM. The Forensic Recorder service follows an attacker-created symbolic link during a privileged write, allowing an arbitrary target file to be overwritten. Exploitation requires prior low-privileged code execution on the host; a successful overwrite enables arbitrary code execution as SYSTEM.
