SYSTEM code execution via bundled Redis heap overflow
Published Jul 22, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024
Code execution in NI SystemLink Server 2024 Q1 and earlier and FlexLogger 2023 Q2 and earlier allows local users to gain SYSTEM privileges. The bundled Redis service executes crafted Lua that overflows heap buffers in the cJSON and cmsgpack libraries, enabling memory corruption and arbitrary code execution. Low-privileged code execution on the host and authorized access to Redis scripting are required; successful exploitation runs code as SYSTEM.
