Denial of service via unchecked history path
Published Jul 10, 2024 · Updated Oct 15, 2025
Path traversal in ChuanhuChatGPT before 20240918 allows remote attackers to create arbitrary server directories via a crafted username. The get_history_names function joins the untrusted username to HISTORY_DIR and enumerates the resulting path without first verifying that it remains inside the intended directory. Unauthenticated web access is sufficient; repeated directory creation can exhaust filesystem resources and interrupt the service.
