CVE-2024-5991Network attack vector

Out-of-bounds read via unterminated hostname buffer

Published Aug 27, 2024 · Updated Aug 27, 2024

An out-of-bounds read in wolfSSL 5.7.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to overread memory through a non-terminated hostname buffer. MatchDomainName ignores the caller-supplied length and scans str for a NULL terminator, reading one byte beyond the supplied array. Reachability requires an application to call the OpenSSL-compatibility X509_check_host API with a non-NULL-terminated name, a use the vendor describes as uncommon.
