CVE-2024-5918Network attack vector

User impersonation via improper client-certificate validation

Published Nov 14, 2024 · Updated Nov 14, 2024

Improper certificate validation in Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS allows remote authenticated users to impersonate legitimate GlobalProtect users. GlobalProtect portal and gateway client-certificate authentication accepts a specially crafted certificate as identifying a different legitimate user; the exact failed validation check is undisclosed. Reachability requires Client Certificate Authentication and the “Allow Authentication with User Credentials OR Client Certificate” option set to Yes, granting the impersonated user’s VPN access.
