Stored script execution via unescaped lightbox attributes
Published May 20, 2025 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Stored XSS in NextGEN Gallery 3.59.4 and earlier and SimpleLightbox 2.14.4 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts. The bundled SimpleLightbox 2.1.5 code inserts user-supplied attributes into generated DOM content without sufficient sanitization or output escaping. Contributor-level access is required to store a payload in a page, and the script executes in the browser whenever that page is accessed.
