CVE-2024-5872Network attack vector

Control-plane disruption via malformed VLAN-tagged packets

Published Jan 10, 2025 · Updated Jan 10, 2025

Origin validation error in affected Arista EOS releases allows remote attackers to disrupt control-plane routing via malformed VLAN tags. On 7050X4 and 7358X4 platforms, packet-processing logic copies an incorrectly tagged packet to the CPU, where control-plane handling occurs. Reachability requires an L3 interface and one documented routing, TTL, or multicast condition; successful packets can cause route flaps or improper multicast route learning.
