Invalid memory access via xmlValidatePopElement use-after-free
Published Aug 25, 2026 · Updated Aug 28, 2026
Use-after-free in Nokogiri before 1.15.6 and 1.16.0 through 1.16.1 allows remote attackers to trigger invalid memory access via crafted XML. The libxml2 xmlTextReader path reaches an xmlValidatePopElement use-after-free while processing the document. Exposure requires CRuby with packaged libxml2 and an application that passes attacker-controlled XML to Nokogiri::XML::Reader with DTD validation and XInclude expansion enabled; JRuby and system-libxml2 builds are unaffected.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=0 <1.15.6
