Unauthenticated database access via bincode subquery injection

Published Jul 18, 2026 · Updated Jul 18, 2026

Query injection in SurrealDB before 1.5.5 and 2.0.0-beta.1 through 2.0.0-beta.2 allows remote attackers to alter database records. The RPC signin and signup handlers accept bincode credential objects without recursively rejecting embedded non-computed values, so a supplied subquery executes inside the owner's SIGNIN or SIGNUP query. Exploitation requires a record access method with a SIGNIN or SIGNUP query and an RPC endpoint exposed to untrusted users; the editor-role session can select, create, update, or delete non-IAM resources but cannot directly return results or modify IAM resources.
