Server crash via non-total random sort comparison
Published Jul 18, 2026 · Updated Jul 18, 2026
Denial of service in SurrealDB before 2.1.0 allows remote authenticated users to crash the server through an ORDER BY rand() query. The ORDER BY sorting path relies on a comparison function that does not implement a total order, causing a panic under Rust 1.81. Query-execution permission is required, and exploitation interrupts the database process without reported data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
