Server crash via unchecked role conversion
Published Jul 18, 2026 · Updated Jul 18, 2026
Denial of service in SurrealDB before 2.1.0 allows remote authenticated users with owner privileges to crash the server. The role conversion from an Ident value calls Rust's unwrap() on an error when a stored role is not owner, editor, or viewer, causing an uncaught panic. An owner must first define a user with a nonexistent role; signing in as that user then terminates the database process without disclosing or altering data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
