CVE-2024-58251

Terminal hang via unsanitized process name

Published Apr 23, 2025 · Updated Apr 23, 2025

Denial of service in BusyBox netstat through 1.37.0 allows local users to lock a victim's terminal via a crafted process name. The networking/netstat.c process cache copies the basename of a socket-owning process's argv[0] into netstat output without neutralizing ANSI control sequences. Exploitation requires a local user to start a network application with the crafted argv[0] and a victim to run netstat in a susceptible terminal; the reported consequence is a terminal hang, not a system crash.
