System crash via requeued Bluetooth work after teardown
Published Sep 24, 2025 · Updated Sep 24, 2025
Use-after-free in the Linux kernel Bluetooth HCI subsystem allows local users to crash the system during HCI device teardown. The hci_unregister_dev path cancels work items and timers without disabling them, so callbacks can be queued again as the hci_dev object is freed. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and HCI device unregistration; the reported consequence is an availability-only system crash.
