CVE-2024-58239Network attack vector

Remote service hang via merged TLS control records

Published Aug 22, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Incorrect record handling in the Linux kernel TLS receive path allows remote attackers to hang service threads with crafted control records. In net/tls/tls_sw.c, process_rx_list copies an initial non-DATA record, then recvmsg processes and merges another same-type record instead of returning immediately. The condition requires a kTLS-enabled endpoint and a peer able to establish a TLS session; with MSG_WAITALL, the reader can block indefinitely and stall other readers on that socket.
