CVE-2024-58237

Kernel memory corruption via stale BPF packet pointer

Published May 5, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

BPF verifier bypass in Linux allows local users with BPF privileges to read, write, or corrupt kernel memory via crafted eBPF. The verifier preserved packet-pointer validity across a tail call even though the called program could run helpers that change packet data, so later accesses used a stale pointer. Loading and attaching the packet-processing program requires CAP_BPF or CAP_NET_ADMIN; exploitation can disclose or overwrite kernel heap data and cause a panic.
