Remote kernel code execution via session lookup race
Published Mar 12, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Use-after-free in the ksmbd SMB server in Linux allows remote attackers to execute kernel code through crafted session setup traffic. Session lookup increments a retrieved session reference only after releasing the session-table lock, allowing concurrent expiry to free the object first. The server must have ksmbd enabled; an unauthenticated peer can race session expiry against lookup, causing kernel-memory corruption, code execution, or a panic.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
