Kernel crash via stale uvcvideo IRQ
Published Mar 6, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux kernel uvcvideo driver allows local users to crash the kernel after unbinding a USB interface. uvcvideo ties GPIO-unit IRQ cleanup to the USB device instead of the interface, leaving the IRQ enabled after uvc_delete frees its state. Exploitation requires a GPIO-capable UVC device, privileges to unbind its interface, and a later IRQ; ordinary device disconnection does not trigger the fault.
