Service interruption via mismatched minor ID lifecycle
Published Mar 6, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Resource-management error in the Linux kernel allows local users to interrupt service through misc-device deregistration. misc_minor_alloc used the IDA only for MISC_DYNAMIC_MINOR, while misc_minor_free unconditionally passed every dynamic-range identifier to ida_free. Low-privileged local access is required, and published scoring limits the effect to availability without confidentiality or integrity impact.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
