System hang via uninitialized status mutex
Published Mar 6, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Improper locking in Linux kernel 6.13 uvcvideo allows local users to hang a system during failed USB video device probing. The uvc_probe() error path calls uvc_status_unregister() before uvc_status_init() initializes dev->status_lock, and unregister attempts to use that mutex. Reachability requires local low-privileged access and a UVC device or emulation that makes probing fail; the reported consequence is an availability-only deadlock.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
