Service interruption via premature remoteproc identifier release
Published Mar 6, 2025 · Updated Sep 8, 2026
Improper input validation in Linux remoteproc allows local users to interrupt service when remote-processor device allocation fails. The rproc_alloc error path releases the device before ida_alloc runs, while rproc_type_release treats the zero-initialized index as allocated and passes it to ida_free. Reachability requires local low-privileged ability to induce an early allocation failure on a device using remoteproc; the documented result is a kernel warning with availability impact.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
