Authenticated code execution via upload path validation
Published Feb 3, 2025 · Updated Oct 21, 2025
Unrestricted file upload in Advantive VeraCore before 2024.4.2.1 allows remote authenticated users to place files in web-accessible folders. The upload.aspx handler checks only file size and accepts attacker-controlled directory and filename values, enabling executable ASP or ASPX content to be written beneath IIS web roots. Prior authentication and a deployment that serves the chosen upload path are required; observed exploitation used stolen credentials to deploy web shells and execute code on affected servers.
