CVE-2024-57945

Kernel memory corruption via vmemmap address underflow

Published Jan 21, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Out-of-bounds access in Linux RISC-V sparse vmemmap initialization allows local users to read or corrupt kernel memory and crash the system. init_unavailable_range() derives a struct page address from an unaligned phys_ram_base, placing entries below VMEMMAP_START when initialization begins at the enclosing section boundary. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and a RISC-V sparse-vmemmap layout whose physical RAM base is not aligned to the memory-section boundary.
