CVE-2024-57932Network attack vector

Remote kernel compromise via unsafe XDP transmission

Published Jan 21, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Memory corruption in Linux kernel GVE allows remote attackers to compromise or crash hosts via packets processed by an XDP redirect. gve_xdp_xmit indexes zero XDP queues when no GVE XDP program exists, can dereference a null TX array, and can access freed ring and DMA memory during an unsynchronized close. A GVE interface and victim-configured XDP redirect are required; crafted traffic can disclose or overwrite kernel memory or repeatedly panic the host.
