CVE-2024-57927

Local service interruption via NULL file pointer

Published Jan 19, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

NULL-pointer dereference in the Linux kernel 6.12 through 6.12.9 allows local users to interrupt service during NFS cache writes. nfs_netfs_init_request() passes a NULL file pointer to nfs_file_open_context() while netfslib creates a copy-to-cache write request, and cleanup also dereferences the absent context. Triggering requires the NFS netfs copy-to-cache path; the resulting kernel oops interrupts availability without reported data disclosure or modification.
