CVE-2024-57898

Kernel warning via premature Wi-Fi link invalidation

Published Jan 15, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

Logic error in Linux kernel 6.12 through 6.12.8 allows local users to trigger a WARN_ON during Wi-Fi link deletion. cfg80211_remove_link clears a link ID from valid_links before ieee80211_link_stop finishes cleanup, so cfg80211_cac_event encounters a missing ID and reaches WARN_ON. NVD assesses local access with low privileges; the precise user-controlled trigger is unpublished, and the reported consequence is a kernel warning rather than a crash or privilege escalation.
