Kernel hang via miscounted reclaimable pages

Denial of service in the Linux kernel allows attackers to hang the system via direct reclaim under specific memory pressure. The zone_reclaimable_pages() function omits free pages when no file-backed or anonymous pages are reclaimable, so allow_direct_reclaim() repeatedly rejects progress. The hang requires a no-swap, multi-zone node where one zone has free pages above its watermark while another remains under pressure.
