CVE-2024-57811Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Root SSH access via hardcoded firmware password

Published Jan 13, 2025 · Updated Jan 16, 2025

Use of hardcoded credentials in Eaton XC-303 3.5.16 through 3.5.17 Build 712 allows remote attackers to obtain root SSH access. The firmware updater exposes the shared root password in clear text, while affected device images store its easily brute-forced crypt hash in /etc/shadow. Network access to SSH is sufficient, and root control persists across reboots and updates because the device lacks secure boot.
