Server crash via malformed row casting
Published Jan 14, 2025 · Updated Jan 15, 2025
Improper input handling in OpenLink Virtuoso Open Source 7.2.11 allows attackers to crash the server with crafted SQL statements. The row_insert_cast path processes incompatible scalar and row values from nested INSERT, SELECT, and UPDATE expressions until the database process faults, rather than rejecting the invalid cast. The published proof of concept submits the statements through an authenticated isql session and demonstrates a server crash, with no demonstrated data corruption or code execution.
