Database crash via crafted nested-subquery update
Published Jan 14, 2025 · Updated Jan 15, 2025
Denial of service in OpenLink Virtuoso Open Source 7.2.11 allows attackers to crash the database using crafted SQL statements. A nested-subquery UPDATE reaches dc_add_int during vectorized query execution and terminates the server, but the precise invalid operation is undisclosed. Reachability requires an interface that accepts attacker-controlled SQL; the public proof uses isql with DBA credentials and does not demonstrate an unauthenticated request.
