Database crash via crafted hash-grouping SQL
Published Jan 14, 2025 · Updated Jan 14, 2025
Denial of service in OpenLink Virtuoso Open Source 7.2.11 allows remote attackers to crash the database through crafted SQL statements. A reproducer builds a grouped view, inserts through it, and evaluates nested grouping and arithmetic expressions that terminate in chash_array during hash-group processing. The SQL interface must accept the crafted statements; successful exploitation interrupts database availability without reported data disclosure or modification.
