Authenticated service crash via unchecked stack copy
Published Jan 21, 2025 · Updated Jan 22, 2025
Stack buffer overflow in Linksys E8450 firmware 1.2.00.360516 allows remote authenticated users to crash the management process via portal.cgi. The sub_422eb8 JSON parser passes attacker-controlled hidden_dhcp_num data to strcpy without checking the destination stack buffer's capacity. Access to the authenticated management endpoint is required; an oversized field overwrites stack memory and crashes the handling process, interrupting the service.
