CVE-2024-57540Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Service interruption via unchecked action field copy

Published Jan 21, 2025 · Updated Feb 4, 2025

A stack buffer overflow in Linksys E8450 firmware 1.2.00.360516 allows remote authenticated users to interrupt service via action data. The sub_422eb8 JSON parser copies the parsed action field onto the stack with strncpy without verifying that the input fits the destination buffer. The public proof of concept labels portal.cgi unauthenticated, while CISA assesses low privileges as required; exploitation corrupts stack memory and interrupts service.
