Unauthenticated command execution via wizard_status injection
Published Jan 21, 2025 · Updated Jan 22, 2025
Command injection in Linksys E8450 firmware 1.2.00.360516 allows remote attackers to execute operating-system commands via wizard_status. The portal.cgi set_wizard_status action parses the wizard_status JSON field and passes its value to system without neutralizing shell metacharacters. The published proof of concept requires no authentication, but the attacker must reach the router's web interface; injected commands run with the handler's privileges.
