Arbitrary code execution via unvalidated DLL search path
Published Feb 6, 2025 · Updated Feb 11, 2025
DLL search-path hijacking in eichgee NetMod VPN Client 5.3.1 allows local users to execute arbitrary code when the client starts. The client searches its installation directory for multiple Windows DLLs, including dcomp.dll, and loads an attacker-supplied match without validating its origin. Write access to a searched directory and a subsequent privileged client launch are required; the injected DLL inherits the client's privileges.
