Service interruption via recursive __proto__ merge
Published Feb 5, 2025 · Updated Mar 13, 2025
Prototype pollution in @stryker-mutator/util before 8.7.1 allows remote attackers to interrupt service via crafted merge input. The deepMerge function recursively follows an attacker-controlled proto key and assigns nested properties onto Object.prototype instead of rejecting that key. Exploitation requires a consuming application to pass attacker-controlled objects to deepMerge, after which polluted inherited properties can interrupt that application's service.
