Service interruption via Object.prototype property injection
Published Feb 5, 2025 · Updated Feb 6, 2025
Prototype pollution in module-from-string 3.3.1 and earlier allows remote attackers to interrupt service through crafted JavaScript code. The requireFromString function executes caller-supplied code in a Node.js vm context, where proto assignment writes a property to Object.prototype. An application must pass attacker-controlled code to the library; the demonstrated payload mutates the global prototype chain, and the published impact is service interruption.
