Service interruption via unchecked prototype path
Published Feb 5, 2025 · Updated Feb 6, 2025
Prototype pollution in expand-object 0.4.2 allows remote attackers to interrupt a consuming Node.js service with a crafted input string. The expand function converts dot-delimited path segments into nested assignments without rejecting proto, allowing an attacker-controlled path to modify Object.prototype. Exploitation requires an application to pass remote input to the library, and the reported consequence is limited to denial of service.
